Welcome to Appalachian Mermaid
Yoga Therapy for those ready to dive beneath the surface

It started with swimming in an alpine lake. The cold water, the mountain air, the feeling of being exactly where I belonged. My partner gave me the name mountain mermaid and it stuck because mermaids understand what lives beneath the surface. Yoga therapy speaks that same language, moving not at the surface level of symptoms, but beneath them, into the body, the breath, and the deeper layers of who you are.

Appalachian Mermaid is a yoga therapy practice rooted in the rhythms of the natural world and the wisdom of the body.

People find their way here for many reasons:

  • Stress and burnout
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Chronic pain, illness
  • Desk job tension
  • Parenthood and caregiver fatigue
  • Women's health and hormonal shifts
  • Interest in owning your wellbeing
  • And anything else that brings you here
Whatever brings you here, you only need to be ready to begin.

What is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga therapy is not a yoga class. It is a personalized, whole-person approach to well-being that uses movement, breathwork, meditation, and self-inquiry to support your specific needs and goals. Sessions are one on one and built around you, your history, your body, and where you are right now.

Yoga therapy is a complementary practice. It works alongside your existing healthcare, not in place of it. No prior yoga experience is needed.

About My Training

I am a 500 hour trained yoga teacher with additional specialized training in restorative and yin yoga, and have completed over 500 hours of yoga therapy training. That foundation informs everything I bring to our sessions, an understanding of the body, the breath, and the way yoga can be adapted to meet a person exactly where they are.

I am currently completing my yoga therapy training through the Practice School of Yoga Therapy (PSYT), a 1,000 hour program accredited by the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT), the governing body that sets the standards for education, ethics, and professional practice in the field worldwide.

The program spans anatomy and physiology, eastern philosophy, mental health, chronic illness and pain, sleep, trauma informed care, addiction and recovery, Ayurveda, myofascial health, clinical assessment, and professional ethics. It is a thorough and wide ranging look at what it means to work therapeutically with another person.

I am currently completing practicum hours working directly with clients. Our sessions are held to professional and ethical standards, informed by my coursework, and reviewed by experienced supervisors. Working with a practicum student gives you access to thoughtful, personalized yoga therapy care at no cost during this period of my training.
